Neuroscience Group of Antioquia
The Neuroscience Group of Antioquia (GNA) is a research group at the University of Antioquia, recognized nationally and internationally for its track record in researching neurodegenerative diseases and neurodevelopmental disorders. They study the structure, function, and abnormalities of the nervous system by monitoring affected populations. The GNA and the University of Antioquia Foundation have spared no effort in supporting, accompanying, and strengthening ties with patients suffering from neurodegenerative diseases, their families, and caregivers, who have been affected during times of profound uncertainty and where joint and coordinated efforts have been relentless.
The University of Antioquia Foundation is responsible for managing resources and implementing projects sponsored by international organizations, which facilitates the achievement of project objectives.
PECET - Research Group
The PECET (Program for the Study and Control of Tropical Diseases) at the University of Antioquia is a multidisciplinary research group that, since 1986 and for nearly 40 years, has carried out research, teaching, and outreach activities aimed at serving the poorest communities affected by tropical diseases.
It has carried out its work in all endemic regions of Colombia and in Central America (Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala), the Mediterranean (Spain, France, Morocco, Tunisia), sub-Saharan Africa (Ethiopia, Cameroon, Sierra Leone), and Asia (Bhutan). This earned it recognition by the WHO as a center of excellence for the education and training of researchers and for the evaluation of medicines and vaccines.
Factor H - Project
Factor H is an NGO dedicated to addressing the medical and social challenges faced by people affected by Huntington’s disease (HD) who also live in vulnerable conditions in Latin America. This is a progressive, genetic neurodegenerative disease that significantly impacts the lives of those who suffer from it and their families.
This work has been carried out since 2016 through awareness-raising, community mobilization, and the provision of infrastructure. Its vision is to ensure that these individuals receive specialized care on a regular basis so they can lead productive lives with dignity in an environment of respect, care, and love. Its mission is to create the necessary conditions to build empowered, cared-for, and self-sufficient families through partnerships with their communities, local and international partners, and organizations—both private and public.
At the University of Antioquia Foundation we are responsible for managing the resources. This partnership aims to implement strategies for prevention, control, and improvement of the quality of life for families affected by Huntington’s disease in Latin America through social and humanitarian support processes for the affected community.

Promote alternative development in prioritized territories of the country, through technical support and contracting of services for the creation of Territorial Spaces, which contribute to the formulation of Interagency Operational Plans within the framework of the National Drug Policy 2023–2033.
Network of Music Schools of Medellín
The Network of Music Schools of Medellín is a social project that creates spaces for gathering, dialogue, and collective creation through music. Through this initiative, children, adolescents, and young adults find a space to understand their individual and local realities, express their emotions, and exercise their right to live in the city and access culture as a common good. Music thus becomes a language that connects, dignifies, and opens opportunities for participation and coexistence.
This program, which belongs to the Secretariat of Citizen Culture and part of the Medellín Network of Artistic and Cultural Practices, is present throughout the city through 28 music schools and 11 integrated groups that bring together more than 6,300 participants across 15 districts and three sub-districts. In these spaces, diverse music traditions and styles, cultures, and forms of knowledge converge, strengthening the development of creative, critical, and supportive citizens. Musical education is experienced as a holistic process that develops competencies in being, knowing, and doing, integrating performance, reflection, and creation so that each participant can narrate and transform their own universe through art.
This project has established itself as a space where music weaves community, promotes civic culture, and contributes to the social transformation of Medellín.
Artes para la Paz - Project
Artes para la Paz (which means Arts for Peace) is a national program aimed at promoting cultures of peace in Colombia by strengthening arts education, cultural circulation, and the recognition of local knowledge and creative practices. Within the framework of the 2022–2026 National Development Plan “Colombia: A Global Power of Life,” this initiative coordinates institutional, technical, and educational efforts to promote art and culture as tools for social transformation, coexistence, and the development of life projects in the country’s priority communities.
The program includes multiple disciplines such as music, dance, theater, creative writing, and audiovisual arts, viewing art as a right and a public good that strengthens the social fabric. Its implementation takes place primarily in public educational institutions and in dispersed rural areas and prioritized municipalities, with the aim of providing greater learning opportunities, strengthening socio-emotional skills, and contributing to the holistic development of children, adolescents, and young people.
Through our participation in this program, at the University of Antioquia Foundation we contribute our technical and pedagogical expertise to consolidate meaningful educational processes that foster talent, strengthen creative capacities in these regions, and contribute to building a more equitable, inclusive, and peaceful country.

Implemented through a contract with the Medellín Department of Education, this program benefits approximately 4,000 participants through recreational, sports, and wellbeing activities designed to promote quality of life, teamwork, coexistence, and the strengthening of meaningful relationships.
The initiative encompasses the program’s comprehensive operation and fosters experiences that contribute to the emotional well-being, health, motivation, and recognition of those who, through their daily work, contribute to the education and transformation of society. At the Foundation, we support this project with a commitment to creating more humane, participatory environments focused on caring for people.
